That is an excellent idea. Most kids want to feel a sense of belonging. He watched you do this for years, and now he is big enough to do it. Moreover, you TRUST him with the equipment. That means a lot to him if you raised him right. I think you are doing all the right things. Just make sure that safety does not get overlooked. Once he knows that you think enough of him to trust him and treat him as an equal, you will have his respect and he will listen when you tell him things. Just try to make sure talks aren't always negative. Don't just criticize and put him down. He is doing a man's work now and also needs to treated as such
