I couldn't figure out why the service is able to continue to meet recruitment goals, in light of everybody getting multiple deployments. But I talked to a young fellow recently, and it turns out that the big hook for joining now is free college, period. Any where, any time. That's a pretty big benny, now, with college costs so high. The guy I talked to summed it up pretty well- "I feel I should serve my country- if I survive, I get free college; If I don't, well, I did my duty. Its a no-lose situation."
A little different outlook than I had 40 years ago, but I salute them for willingness to roll the dice.
