Bill, I don't know which model your asking about. The unstyled Ls just had a piece of pipe that was flattened on one end and threaded on the other and did not have a muffler. The cast manifold outlet was threaded to accept the threaded end of the pipe. See the attached pic.
The styled Ls had a whole different setup with a muffler.
