"Your generator, starter and voltage regulator don't need to be changed" You are right as far as you go...However how do you keep the 8-volt battery charged with the 7.5-volt output of the generator. What do you do when the extra 2 volts at the coil melt the insulation and short out the windings. How about the extra arcing and burning of the points? Stick with the biggest 6-Volt battery that will fit your box. Clean EVERY electrical connection. Make sure you have solid copper core spark plug wires. Make sure you have at least 2-guage battery cables and I recommend 1/0 cables...
