At my nearby Campbell Supply or Tractor Supply Stores they carry an 8 volt battery for replacement in these old tractors. Your generator, starter and voltage regulator don't need to be changed and the extra voltage spins the old starters a bit better with better endurance (same as handheld cordless tools going to higher voltage) The higher voltage would stay fresher longer also I would think.....
