Of course rarity is a great (but not the only) influence on the value of an item. Desirability plays a big part also. If an item was popular at the time of it's introduction, chances are it will remain (or again become) popular as time goes by. An Allis "A" is certainly rarer than, say a "B". But the "B" is also desirable because it was a big hit when it was introduced. The Mustangs and Model A Fords are not rare, but they are collectible. "Most" of us are not involved with trying to make a killing with our collections. As most said, we do it for the pure pleasure we derive from the hobby. Having said that, buying any older tractor (at a reasonable price) is a good investment when compared with buying anything "brand new" as the older machine is nearly sure to appreciate rather than depreciate. Hmmm....I wonder: if I bought enuf "B"s to equal the value of one "A" at today's prices, would they still be worth as much as the "A" 25 years from now?
