I think your doctor was right with the exercises. My shoulders have ached like a toothache for several years. Real tough at night to lay on,but I can't sleep on my back either because I stop breathing. At 54 I've been going downhill fast,so for the heck of it,since we finally have an empty bedroom,I decided I was going to start to workout a little. I hadn't lifted weights since highschool,but my sons weight bench and a few weights were still here from his football days,so I sat that up in the empty bedroom. Didn't think with my shoulders as bad as they were that I could even lift,but I've been going for reps without a whole lot of weight and it's made a huge difference already after just two and a half weeks. Doing arm curls up from the side of the bench seems to be helping the most. My shoulders still squeek and grind,but the pain is pretty much gone. I can get right to sleep and stay asleep on either side now.
