Have a 96 3500. Right after it went ot of warrenty. Developed a terrible oil leak on front of engine. Yup it as tha killer dowel pin that line up the timing cover. it had dropped out and rolled around on the gears till it caught and broke through the cover. Dealer said it had been a problem. Either hole was oversize or the dowel underdized. Was a costly repair. Asked the mechanic how prevent. He showed us that he took a sharp punch and after the new one was installed would hammer the punch on the engine right over the dowel causing a indentation over the dowel. got another 190,000 and still going.
