Hey, I resemble that remark! Our ranch turnoff is 36 miles from Valentine NE. The town of Thedford is a bit closer to us('bout 5 miles closer) but only "stores" there are a privately owned lumberyard/hardware and a grocery store, both of which are usually higher priced than Valentine. Valentine, pop 2800(SALUTE!!!) has quite a bit more as far as stores(Bomgaars, Mickey D's, 3 big grocery stores, etc.
We're about an hour and a half from the closest Menards, Wal-Mart, etc in North Platte.
