Hi Mike, I know it's common to use graphite on the axles, but a much better alternative is molybdenum disulfide(moly for short). Graphite really works best in conjunction with oil. Moly on the other hand, works just fine with no oil at all. The moly can be burnished into the surfaces of the axle and wheel bore by hand, and will not be detectable after being wipped off. Powder is best for this kind of job. Due eto the health concerns related to breathing the dust, powder isn't as easy to find as it used to be, but it is available. Moly won't turn one of these cars into a demon, but all things being equal, I'd rather have moly on my axles when everyone else is using graphite...Al English
