John, there are a couple of thoughts about how to distribute the weight of the car. The winner the last few years around here put all the weight as far rearward as possible (to get the extra pull from gravity, I guess). One thing you left out is to get a tube of powdered dry graphite lube at the hardware store. It is the only way to go, even after polishing the axles. Boys cars woudn't be allowed to use non standard tires, but sounds like you dads have no restrictions on the fun.
