You are correct. With electric you get what you get. watts in equals watts out. PERIOD! The only thing you can change is how well it moves it around the room.
Tried hard to convince the inlaws of this but they bought one anyway to heat some insulated storage space in the garage that has stuff that can't freeze. They used to have a plain, cheap electric heater. The new "fancy" amish one costs them more because it has few heat setting options and therefore keeps the room warmer using more electric and therefore costs them even MORE than before!
