Oop's sorry Andy. What I intended to write at the end of my above post is that the alternator will not draw any power from the battery when the tractor is shut down if the S regulator terminal is switched off.
If for some reason you do not want the alternator to charge when the tractor is running, put the cut off switch in the wire to the S regulator terminal. Then it can run without damage and will not take any power.
