Replacement three wire pumps have no centrifugal switch in the pump.They a bring a start winding lead up on the 3rd wire and connect to a relay/control box in the "pump room". Three wire pumps also allow the option of a variable speed drive built by Franklin. The motor speed is dialed up or down to maintain pressure depending on the flow. When flow stops the pump stops.
