Simple answer, do the test yourself. Fill a glass with water and ice. Mark the level of water on the outside of the glass. Wait until it melts and the level will be the same.
Water is one of the few substances that is less dense when in a frozen state. It is due to hydrogen bonding that take place while it freezes.
