Field Marshalls were rare and wonderful beasts. A fairly exotic tractor when 98% of tractors in England were Fordsons or Fergusons. 2 stroke supercharged diesels. Hearing a Field Marshall or a Track Marshall under a very heavy load is a sound that will stay with you for a long time. An old friend of mine drove one while working for a custom operator in World War 2. That tractor ploughed, cultivated and thrashed for months on end and was shut off for maintenance only. Very economical to operate, but like most two strokes had to keep the revs up. David used to rip up a rag every morning to plug his ears.
