I would guess that depends where your land is, what you plan on doing with it, etc. My dad farmed about 7 quarters in the 60's with a IH 660 diesel, a Farmall 400 diesel, a gas M and a W-4. He retired in the 70's and his big tractor was a JD 4430. He raised wheat, barley, alfalfa, potatoes, and oats in Northern North Dakota. On the other hand, seems like much smaller farmers in other parts of the country use much larger equipment.
