I used to mangle one of those from time to time, but it's been a while and I'm not much help as I can't quite imagine what parts of the linkages could be "transposed" easily.
They are a pretty straightforward unit and usually work after being "freshened up" without any major problems.
Did your kit come with some basic drawings and instructions?
A GREAT resource for these carbs is "The Haynes Rochester carburetor manual" by Mike Stubblefield and John H. Haynes.
