Maybe someone could help me ....

I have a '81 Chevy K10 pickup 6-cylinder (250) that I put in a new carburetor kit. Well... I must have messed up on the linkage and it's not running very well. Does someone have one that they'll be able to take a picture of and post it here. Or...maybe point me to another forum that may be able to help me.

Thanks!

Well, at least you've got the non-electronic version!

I used to mangle one of those from time to time, but it's been a while and I'm not much help as I can't quite imagine what parts of the linkages could be "transposed" easily.

They are a pretty straightforward unit and usually work after being "freshened up" without any major problems.

Did your kit come with some basic drawings and instructions?

A GREAT resource for these carbs is "The Haynes Rochester carburetor manual" by Mike Stubblefield and John H. Haynes.

Any chance your library has a copy or could quickly get one on loan?

Also, you might try asking on the appropriate Forum at "fullsizeChevy.com".

Thanks Bob for your help!

Well...I'm not too sure I got the linkage wrong but for some reason the engine will die when going downhill. I thought it was the float adjustment but it's dead on with the specs. That's why I'm questioning the linkage.

Only going downhill? Been there; done that.

I'd check that tiny little contact washer return spring in the starter solenoid. It lives right under and dead in the center of the black bakelite end cap of the solenoid.

If that little joker falls out of it's seat, breaks, bends or whatever, it can short out the primary ignition finger (terminal).

***And it will only happen when the outfit is headed downhill. Dead give-away if you're also getting a backfire now and then.

While I can see linkages getting mixed up on these, I cant see any linkage problems causing it to die . Pick up coil in dist has been famous for dead spots . Unhook vac advance line .if problem is gone , bad PU coil . I used to OH 3-5 of these a week back in the carb days .
