Google maps vary in quality from place to place. In Christchurch NZ, you can almost pick out the rose bushes and for many place you can also get a street view of your residence. The google cmaeras drove past here a month also so I suspect that we will also have a street view soon. MapQuest was good for looking at a lot of places in the US but very patchy for parts of Europe and also New Zealand.
