what is the best topo or aerial map, google terra server or what others do you guys use ,trying to get closer pic of the farm, thanks

I don't know about your area but google maps in my area looks a whole lot better than it used too but its still hard to make out buildings.

I use www. yellowpages.com, maps and directions, they have maps, aerial view, combined, and in some places, a bird's eye view. enter the address and enjoy the view.

From what I have learned from using them it all depends upon where the location is. My hometown area is very lowly populated and the satellite views on Google Earth are quite poor. Where I live now which is more highly populated the views are good.

Give "Flash Earth" a try as they offer views by Yahoo, NASA, Microsoft Virtual Earth, and others. Find the list on the upper left on the second page.

My favorite is Google Earth simply because of ease of use.

Google maps vary in quality from place to place. In Christchurch NZ, you can almost pick out the rose bushes and for many place you can also get a street view of your residence. The google cmaeras drove past here a month also so I suspect that we will also have a street view soon. MapQuest was good for looking at a lot of places in the US but very patchy for parts of Europe and also New Zealand.

Yup. Just depends. Here I use several, depending.

Google maps is fast and easy, unless it doesn't show what you want

Probably next is "Bing Maps" (used to be Microsoft maps) and it has a closeup "birds eye" view in many populous areas. Incidently, the "birds eye" is NOT a sat pic, it's taken from low-flying aircraft. You can rotate the birds eye picture, but what you "really" see when you do that is 4 separate shots.

Last, but sometimes most useful, is "Google Earth," but you have to download and install it---it's a program. I use Ubuntu Linux here, so it was a little fuss to get it up and running.

Mapquest left me cold. I've found few places that it works as good or better than Google Maps.

Many, many of these sat pictures are YEARS old.

Just about all the sites use aerial photos taken for the United States Department of Agriculture. For Indiana (where I live) all the major sites seem to use photos vintage 2004.

If you Google department of agriculture aerial maps (plus the name of your state) you should be able to find at least one site that has much more recent maps. For Indiana, Indiana University has a site that has 2008 aerial maps online
