there is a possiblity that the gasket between the carb.and manifold is leaking,however i think it is the carb.in the very bottom of the bowl,there should be two holes.these hole can get well covered up in a carb that has had water in it,or dried gasoline.these holes let the gas in to the idleing jet.you could take the bowl off and fill it with gas and see how long it takes the gas to get from the outside of the bowl to the inside.
