On the MD through SMDTA farmall tractors the switchover lever pivoted at the bottom of lever and pushed the changover rod forward for gas operation, because the rod was mounted above pivot point. On 400 and 450 farmall tractors the pivot point of lever was above the linkage rod, so when the lever was pulled back it still moved the rod forward for gas operation. You must have a modified system or something strange.
