ford major diesel

My old major always started like a champ but suddenly I can't get it to fire at all. thinking there was water in the fuel I drained the tank, blew out the fuel lines,filled with fresh fuel and bled off the air. I know I am getting fuel to the injectors but still nothing, and not much in the way of smoke at the exhaust either.It will start with ether but won't continue to run. any ideas ?
