Here in Montana your statement of "they don't buy hogs on the hoof anymore" is about the truth. There are only a few local markets that take hogs, they usually only have sales one day a week or even one day everyother week. We really are not a hog area though so it is understandable. I think I would figure out what auctions you plan to take them to and then call those yards to see their most current prices. The other idea depeneding on your area would be to skip the markets all together and sell direct. Place ads in the local papers for hogs to be delivered to the butcher of their choice. You can then set a price that works for your breakeven + desired profit margin a bit better. If you have 30 hogs (assuming you mean sows) you should have a number of market hogs small enough to direct sell this way twice a year. A lot more hassle but your profit margin should be considerably higher.
