While it's not a bad idea, it's not really necessary as long as you service the trans as recommended. I work in a transmission parts warehouse, and we sell hundreds of bottles of additive, both the Smart Blend and Lubegard products. Our shop mechanics put it in many vehicles, but not all of them. It mainly has friction modifiers and heat stabilizers, and in a high mileage tranny it may be a good idea. There's nothing in the two brands we carry to "swell the seals". That idea died out years ago when lip seals used to harden up and crack with heat and age. The rubber compounds and lip seal styles they use in any trannys after the mid to late 80's did away with the need for that stuff.
