I was just telling my wife about this phenomenon yesterday. It appears to me that as any machine ages their value declines. With pretty much any big machine the decline is steeper because the big operation can't afford the problems and downtime in an older more used piece of equipment, while the number of retirement homes for really big equipment is much lower because a hobby operation or homeowner can't realistically make use of the big equipment like they do the small ones.
