When I was in first grade, neighbor had a horse that hated kids. If he saw me crossing the pasture (short cut to school) he'd come running, squealing, with his teeth bared and I'd beat it for the fence. Last day of school, I was coming home and the horse was laying out in the middle, on his side, with his legs sticking out kinda funny. Dead as a doorknob. I slipped up with a piece of a tree limb, vengence in mind. I whopped him hard in the ribs, and three possums ran right out of his butt. They'd been in there having a feast.
I think of that EVERY time I hear of anyone eating possum.
