Makes me think you have the wrong radiator hose if it doesn"t bend enough to come off the pipe. And I"d pull the radiator before pulling the water pump if it was that difficult. Four bolts on the hood, two underneath, and slide the rad forward. Why risk a leaky seal on the pump? Never a problem with it in over 5 decades. With an alternator, try leaving it totally unbolted, twist it a bit to get the belt on, then install bolts.
