From what I see it does not seem to hurt the barrels any. I would not shot them only. I do use this 44mag I have as a back up gun for deer hunting and last year I took a 10 point buck with it at around 60 yards. I load my own ammo for my gun and this gun is an odd ball. Serial number is FS0002 yep 2nd gun in production
