For me it started with all of the changes they made. Used to be Ebay was individuals selling things and you could get some good deals. Then it got to where there were so many businesses getting involved, people setting up Ebay businesses, etc that the prices weren't so low anymore. Add to that the searches that used to turn up what you looked for now turning up 500 things you weren't looking for because some business wanted to advertise their stuff to you whether you wanted it or not and it became more unattrative. Then add on the whole Pay Pal payment scheme and I'd rather just buy local or do without as I had to deal with the whole mess.
Like others have said for me the time I used to spend on Ebay now gets spent on CraigsList looking for the things I do happen to need locally. Not to mention they have a "free" section and you can't imagine the stuff people are looking to get rid of just for your time to go get it. I've missed some great free deals on there so far, but my day will come....
Another venue many people overlook is their states Agricultural Review, or whatever you state calls it if they have one. In NC ours has the relevent info to the farming community as well as classified sections for alot of different things from Bee keeping supplies, animals for sale or wanted, tractors, trucks, trailers for sale or wanted, etc etc. Like any other classifieds it's always worth a look.
