We used to pour water in a barrel of barley and let it soak for a few days, then feed it to the hogs. The folks said the soaking would make it swell before it entered their digestive system, and would prevent the problems that could arise if they ate it dry.
They would go crazy over it. I always thought it kinda made them drunk. . .
You had to be careful and not get any of the wet barley on your hands - the smell would NOT wash off.
