I use yellow beach sand. It is softer and does not pick at the parts as bad as silica and slag. It also runs a lot cooler. It leaves a smoother surface to paint but still etches the surface enough for great paint adhesion. I have been restoring antique military vehicles for a lot of years and have used all 3 blasting materials.Around here white silica goes for about $5 a bag. I can buy yellow sand for $20 a ton washed dried and sifted in the bulk. I dont feel as bad loosing the sand when I blast out doors. I still use white silica in the cabinet because I can control it better and the cabinet recycles the silica untill it goes to powder. Remember to always use the best resperator you can get as you only have one set of lungs, Bill
