Sandblasting can warp sheet metal, but if done properly even with sand you'll get good results. Dad had the sheetmetal from his 460 and 400 blasted by a friend of my brothers. I was stunned at the outstanding finish he got. I asked this guy about warpage when blasting. He told me the trick is take your time and don't lay on one area for very long. Several repetitions are what is necessary. It's not the heat. There is simply not enough generated to cause harm. The problem is that hard blast media (silica sand or flint) acts like millions of tiny hammers on the metal "peening" it. This can build up surface tension in the metal and resultant stresses.
