Trouble with 8N

I am having trouble with my 8N.It can be hard to start,but usually will run.Lately it has a tendecy to just cut off in the middle of running.I am wondering if the timing chain is getting stretched or if it could be a carburator or distributor problem.Any suggestions on how to track it down?
