JD A oil in pulley

I picked up a '47 JD A a couple of years ago, just toying around with it for now, may restore eventually. It runs well, has good compression, tight bearings, and doesn't burn any significant amount of oil (the plugs don't show it anyway), but...
I have trouble with oil getting into the pulley. If I run the tractor for a long period, such as on an auger or raking hay, it will actually fling out from between the pulley and the cover, speckling the axle and that side of the tractor. I've had the clutch completely apart several times, and the pulley off the tractor when I first got it to put on a new drive disk and frictions, and replace the toggles and dogs. I can't find any trace of any kind of seal or oil deflector, nor does my I&T book refer to one, just the "threaded" part of the pulley that (I think) is supposed to move oil away from the clutch as the engine runs. An older gentleman who worked on these tractors at a dealership for years couldn't help either. I've tried 15-40, and straight weights of 30, 40, and 50, and I keep the level where it should be, just at the petcock. The evacuator pump in the fan shaft is working, and the plumbing from it to the breather is clear. Any ideas? Thanks!
