Paul's advice will probably show what your problem is. But also, check the starter yourself. Use jumper cables, negative to a good ground (not at the battery) and positive directly to the starter where the cable from the starter solenoid connects. If the starter is good and the cables are bad, the starter will spin and start the engine. If the starter still has trouble, it is likely the problem.
