It doesn't seem like the Army thought the Trapdoor was deficient after Little Big Horn. Twenty years later, many of the troops fighting in the Spanish-American War were armed with Trapdoors. U.S soldiers armed with Trapdoors got to be on the receiving end of Spanish Mausers.
