The real problems (for Custer and his troops anyway) wasn't the Trapdoor 45-70s (or more correctly 45-55s in the carbines), it was that Custer divided his exhausted force of 600 and attacked 1800 Lakota and Cheyenne warriors. (Custer wanted to become a great war hero and run for President, this goal causes men to do strange things) The Springfields had far greater range than any of the weapons that the Indians had. The Indians weapons included not only the Winchesters and Henry repeaters but also 50-70 Springfields, muzzel loaders and bows. And, I suppose, during and after the battle the Indians had 1873 Springfields and Colts. An Indian warrior said that the battle lasted "about as long as it took a hugry man to eat his lunch". Custer made no last stand, he was routed, it was a running away battle. I have 3 trapdoors. A 1884 rifle, a 1884 reciever that I built up as a carbine in 30-40 Kreg and a recent 1873 copy that was built in Italy. Love them all. A visit to the Little Bighorn Battle site is well worth the trip.
