It"s gonna get worse. I own an independant repair shop. We seem to be taking the same hit or even worse than a consumer. I have an expensive job locked on a hoist cause trans cooler lines are a week out. This is a 2000 escort, pretty basic stuff. Two weeks ago I couldn t get a flywheel for a dodge cummins, had to go used. Parts prices keep climbing and I can t pass it all on to the customer and stay affordable.
We buy some of our parts from dealerships but alot from the same vendors that supply OEM parts. These vendors are the ones that have taken a big hit with GM and Chrysler tanking. Ford is in the same boat. The suppliers only recourse is to keep raising prices to stay above water.
I m not complaining cause I still have work to do, but who would of ever thought I d have an easier time sourcing parts for the Acura, Lexus, and Honda I m working on than a 00 escort or 96 dodge 1 ton..
Maybe this is just part of the change we were promised..
