6V or 12V?

...heres another silly question My Farmall Super H has been out of commission for about eight years and today I noticed the battery is missing. I realize that originally it came with a 6V system, but for some reason I beleive I used to have a 12V battery on it. My question is, can I look at something and tell if it is 6V or the 12V upgrade? What I'm trying to avoid is going to the parts store tomoorw and bringing home a 6 and 12v battery, having to take one back, possibly blowing one up,etc.... Sincerely,
