When the tie rod ends gave out on our MH 50, this is basically what I did. Went to a truck suspension parts place with the old rod end, asked to see what they had that looked like what I needed. Bought a couple ends that looked the same, except for the threaded ends.

I sawed the threaded ends off, tig welded appropriate rod stock on and notched it where necessary for width adjustment, using the old parts as a pattern.

Worked fine, and a damn site cheaper than what CT wanted. But you take the integrity of that weld on yourself when you do that.
