I'd get off I-40 in Gallup, NM and go north to Moab first. It would be quite a long day to get it in and the north rim too. You'll see some of the nicest mountain scenery on the way. Let me know if you want to know the towns to hit and the ones to skip. Born and raised here in SW Colorado.
