O.T. Trip out west

Anyone familiar with the grand canyon area of Arazona?? I am taking a trip out west soon and would like some input. I am traveling west on 40. I am planing to see a ghost town south of Flagstaf called Jerome, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon before heading into Utah's canyon lands. Would it be better to zip north from 40 and see monument valley first, or see it as a side trip on the way to the north rim of the canyon from the south rim???
Thanks for the help

I been out there 3 times, in my opinion BRYCE CANYON Natl Park is about as good as Grand Canyon, it and Zion Natl Park and Glen Canyon Dam and Four Corners and Monument Valley etc (all relatively close just North and East from Grand Canyon) ARE A MUST SEE so Id start with The Petrified Forest and Painted Desert (near 40) on the way West then Grand Canyon South Rim, then Zion and Bryce Canyon (DO NOT MISS BRYCE) and Glen canyon then Monument Valley. Then you can go East to Durango Colorado and take the railroad trip then swing back south to I 40 wooooooooo hoooooooo

At the first Natl Park get a golden passport (if youre old enough lol) then you get in all the rest of the Natl sites

I WANNA GO BACK you havent lived until youve seen Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley

We have what we want to see down and will be going to utah's canyon lands after north Arizona. We are trying to figure out If Monument valley is closer to the Grand Canyon, or to I40. If its closer to I 40. the best thing to do is to see it on the way out to Flagstaf to see Jerome. If it's closer to the grand canyon, It's better as a side trip when making the drive around the east side of the canyon when going fron the south rim to the north rim.

If you are going South to Jerome, make sure you see the Red Rocks of Sedona, Az. Beautiful scenery. The petrified forest just east of Flagg is kinda interesting as well. Lot's of different colors on that little trek. Bob

No doubt about it, much to see in Ariz, Utah, New Mexico.

However, there is more to the WEST than these three states: try Wyoming, Nevada,Idaho, Calif, Washington and Oregon. Each state has scenic prospects unique to each.

Finally ever dipped your toes in the Pacific Ocean? Miles of scenic coastline in Wash, Ore and California.

Takes time and $ to see it I know .

Happy trails, wherever you go.

Monument Valley (well worth seeing) is on HiWay 160 SE Utah and NE Arizona area NORTHEAST of Grand Canyon due North of I 40. You just have to look at the map n figure it out based on where youre coming from n where youre returning I reckon

That entire drive on 160 in NE Arizona and SE Utah (can take Arizona 191 north to get there of I 40) IS BEAUTIFUL

Have a safe trip JT

We 'did' most of the things that've been mentioned; a couple more that we enjoyed: Walnut Canyon, Montezuma Castle (and Well), Bisbee, Gleeson, etc. I second Ol' John T's 'don't miss' train ride, except we like the Cumbres & Toltec because it wasn't nearly as crowded; that's been a few years ago. If we ever get to go back (we hope), the train ride's on the definite 'must do' list.
Ride here

I'd get off I-40 in Gallup, NM and go north to Moab first. It would be quite a long day to get it in and the north rim too. You'll see some of the nicest mountain scenery on the way. Let me know if you want to know the towns to hit and the ones to skip. Born and raised here in SW Colorado.
