I'm ready to just give up!
We caught just enough rain saturday to keep us out for the most of the day but got to run later in the day and got a 80 of beans in and cliff worked the 80 that was to go to corn, to wet but it went. All I needed was a couple hours of sunshine sunday morning and it was off to the races and we could get really close to finishing everything but a couple of patches.
Got up yesterday morning and knew we were in trouble when it was cloudy. It was raining shortly after 6am. A piddly two tenths. The sun never came out and we got sprinkles all day. Only saw one guy in the field all day, it was amazingly wet and with this rain he will be replanting it anyway.
I rode the fields last night on the four wheeler and with a couple hours of sunshine everything would have been fine this morning.
I awoke to thunder at 3am with rain pounding on the windows.
There are alot of beans unplanted around here yet. Some corn is still unplanted but very little as most guys have got that done at least. Running around on the 4 wheeler the crops look suprisingly good.
I'm sitting here this morning trying to decide when to give up on the corn and get some beans and just plant that field to beans. Its been in corn for three years anyway so other than wasting the money on nitrogen it isnt a big deal.
How did things play out for you last spring gary? When did you actually get the corn in? Did you switch to beans at some point? Did the corn ever dry down in the fall? We have luckly never dealt with anything like this and I am really at a loss. Mother nature has given us about 10 years of amazing crops but she is putting us through the wringer this spring.
