I own a early 04 d max with the LB7 engine which is the same as the 02. I have 275,000 on the truck and it has not had ANYTHING done to the engine, the Allison crapped out at 200,000 finally. The only problem with the early engines like these are the injectors. They are bad about cracking the injector body's and filling the crankcase with diesel fuel. GM now covers these to 200,000 miles. All other truck with even near the mileage I have has had one set or possibly two. Im not sure why I have never had a problem. Ive had one dodge a 95 model and never was pleased with it, the truck fell apart long before the engine did. I had two powerstroke diesel's before the chevy and im hooked on the d-max now! I just recently bought a 08 and its just as sweet.
