Ford sold lots of pickups with the 300 6 and overdrive automatics from about 1980 on. If I was considering such a conversion, I would check with a good wrecking yard. They might have everything you need to make it work and might even guarantee the transmission they sell you. The Ford overdrive was pretty good and would probably work very well in the light duty you are describing. Might even up your gas mileage some. Good luck!
