officially you are supposed to use engine oil (same weight as you use for the engine), but i use trans-hydraulic oil in my 10/60 (older tractor)so it matches the oil in the rest of my tractor fleet, doesn"t seem to hurt, but it is thinner than engine oil, you do need to keep the level up if you use trans-hydraulic oil as the transmission/rear end is splash lubricated not pressure lubed from a pump...
