Just wondering what the first symptoms of a transmission failure would be in a Ford 3/4 ton.
I've got a 5-speed with a lot of miles (200K) and the other day, the output shaft nut came off. The yoke didn't get loose, and the u-joint caught the nut, so I just put it back on & tightened it, but the transmission was much hotter than I expected.
I drained the oil and it was clear with no silvery tint or flakes.
It doesn't make any odd noises & is easy to shift.
