Now if this had the common GM-type starter, the starter motor will not spin until the solenoid is engaged. To start the tractor, you hit the key, it energizes the solenoid, it pulls back on the solenoid, and then it makes contact to put electricity to the starter motor. If your starter motor turns, your solenoid should be okay. If your starter motor turns, but not the engine, you have a bad starter drive and it needs to be replaced. Maybe somebody will chime in here and tell me I'm completely off my rocker.
